ОтветитьУдалитьTRAINING STUDENTS TO LISTEN MORE EFFECTIVELY TO AUTHENTIC SPOKEN ENGLISH
Based on the methodology and writing of Sheila Thorn, this presentation begins by critiquing the heavily scripted listening texts found in most coursebooks and discussing how these, and the traditional listening comprehension approach, fail to prepare students for the authentic spoken English they will encounter outside the classroom. Using a variety of off-air recordings from a unique collection, we will look at those aspects of spoken English which students find so challenging (assimilation, elision, linking, etc). There will then be a demonstration of a number of ‘pure listening training exercises’ which actually train students to listen more effectively to authentic spoken English. There will also be in introduction to a unique skills book series based on this methodology called Real Lives Real Listening.
